The Detroit Red Wings agreed on a one year contract with unrestricted forward Todd Bertuzzi. The deal will pay Bertuzzi $1.5 million.

Bertuzzi played with the Red Wings in 2006-2007. He was a trade deadline acquisition after a miserable season with the Florida Panthers.... where he spent most of the year sidelined with back injuries after they traded star goaltender Roberto Luongo to acquire him.

Last season Bertuzzi collected 15 goals and 29 assists with the Calgary Flames.

According to reports, San Jose Sharks forward Jeremy Roenick will call it a career and announce his retirement.

Roenick will cap a 20 year NHL career that saw him collect 1,216 points (513 goals, 703 assists) over 1,363 games. Roenick originally a first round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks, went on to play in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Phoenix and finally San Jose.

Roenick was a two time 50-goal scorer, is ranked 36th all-time on the goals list, and is only the third American player to reach the 500 goal mark.

Congratulations on a great career Jeremy!

Quick Shave:
The Nikolai Zherdev experiment in New York came to an end yesterday following an up and down season. The New York Rangers exercised their right to walk away from a salary arbitration award that would have payed Zherdev, $3.9 million for one year. Zherdev scored 58 points (23 goals, 35 assists) for the Rangers last year, but was shutout during their first round playoff series against the Washington Capitals.

Zherdev is now officially an unrestricted free agent.
