Sean Avery suspended for 6 games
The NHL came down hard on Sean Avery... so says TSN and just about every other new organization. The Dallas Stars forward who has pretty much earned the title of League Ass recieved a 6 game suspension for inappropriate remarks directed towards Dion Phaneuf's girlfriend Elisha Cuthbert, whom Avery once dated. He will also recieve anger management counseling as part of his suspension.
Sloppy Seconds.
I don't think I've ever heard such harsh words come from an NHL player.
Or have I?
(by the way if you were offended by Avery's comments... DO NOT watch any of the videos below!)
If you couldn't tell, Bosh is definitely taking to the 'lighten up' side of the street here. Don't get me wrong, I feel bad for Ms. Cuthbert, and do empahtize with Dion Phaneuf. However I don't think Avery's comments warranted a suspension. In time, Avery will have to face the music and he will recieve more than his share of punishment for his words and most likely receive little to no protection from his team mates.
Anger Management. Are you guys kidding? This guy is not angry. If anything he's brilliant. I haven't seen such brilliant self-promotion since Dennis Rodman. Every thing Sean Avery does, and says on or off the ice is calculated. This week he is the most famous player in the NHL.
The Dallas Stars are apparently less than pleased with their newly acquired player... and I wouldn't be surprised if they ship him off to a minor league club. Really the only way to hurt this guy is to remove him from the spotlight... and if you do that, you will more than likely be able to bring him in line... like a controlled explosion of sorts.
Much to Avery's happiness... I'm sure this will not be the last we here of this!
Your friend on ice,
Captain Bosh

Ha - nicely done. Some classic clips there and I'm sure you wouldn't have to look too hard to find more (Crosby drops the F-bomb all the time on the ice).
I actually think the suspension is fine. I mean, I wouldn't be up in arms if it were just one game, mind you, but the league made the point that you just can't say stuff like that in an interview. And that's the key difference between what Avery did and all those other clips you have (Toews and Sundin are the exceptions, though to be fair they seem like honest slip ups). The language on the ice isn't intended to be heard by an audience off the ice. An interview's an entirely different scenario.
Avery knew what he was doing, knew he was being recorded, and had no doubt planned to make his comment well in advance. He wanted to rile things up and it worked. But "sloppy seconds"?? Ouch. That's pretty degrading to any woman, let alone one who's on the celebrity radar.
I think Avery left the league no choice but to respond. Bottom line is that if he says it on the ice it's a non-event. The league shouldn't risk losing fans because of one stupid comment. I think six games is fair in that light. He won't be missed in that time.

Ha, the only person Avery hurt was himself. Now his teammates hate him, Phaneuf is going to dismantle him the next time they meet on the ice, and no woman with a brain is going to want to end up his "sloppy seconds" (like either of those women were virgins when he met them). Both women have significantly upgraded and Avery is headed to the minors when NO ONE cares who he is or what he does....the very WORST thing that could happen to him.

It really would have been great to watch that game had Avery not been suspended. But ultimately I think Phaneuf probably would have been suspended for killing Avery...literally not figuratively.
Teri you are right, he will probably end up in the minors, if the Stars are smart. That will destroy him. He's all about the publicity and being sent to the middle of nowhere to play hockey will drive him insane.
If Sean Avery makes a jackass comment in the woods and no one's around to hear it... ah you get the idea!
