Datsyuk stars in Dallas
Pavel Datsyuk and the Detroit Red Wings put the Dallas Stars on the brink of elimination from the playoffs last night, and moved one step closer to moving on to the Stanley Cup Finals.
Pavel Datsyuk scored his first ever career NHL hat trick (which is mind-boggling) and helped lift the Red Wings to a 5-2 win, and a 3-0 series lead over the Dallas Stars.
I picked the Dallas Stars to win this series in 7, and frankly I don't think I've made a worse prediction this playoffs (except for maybe the Caps beating the Flyers in 3 games in round one.... but I was kinda kidding on that one... kinda). The Dallas Stars look outmatched part of the time, and completely frustrated for the remaining time. The Red Wings hold onto the puck (if you played the puck possession drinking game last night, you'd be in bad shape right now.... how many times did Doc and Eddie say 'puck possession'), and never give their opponents an opportunity to mount an attack. This series looks as good as over.

Total. Domination.
I don't think your prediction was way off based on how well Dallas was playing. Problem is, I think we're seeing just how good Detroit is. One of the stats that stood out to me was the number of missed shots the Stars had. I'd say that's a sign of a team knowing they're not getting many chances and thinking too much when they do. They have to throw the kitchen sink at Detroit. Just put the puck on net and try for the lucky bounce.
And I'm not even sure that will be enough.

I've always thought wings in five in this series, but now I'm not even sure they'll lose one game. The stars looked like they could hang with the wings for about a period, and then the wings just took over.
And I thought about that "puck possession drinking game" thing. They basically spent the last 15 minutes repeating it in exasperation.

See! If you had a drink every time they said 'puck possession', you would have been wrecked by the second period!
By they way... you guys see Stephane Robidas' nose? Holy Crap.
