Modano sets American mark
Mike Modano surpassed Phil Housley on the NHL career points record by an American player last night. Modano scored twice early (just 5 minutes in) against the San Jose Sharks last night to record his 1,232nd, and 1,233rd points. Modano was believed to have tied the record last weak, after assisting on a goal, but review following the game determined he never touched the puck.
The 37 year old, Michigan born player has spent his entire NHL career with the Stars organization (formerly the North Stars when in Minnesota). Modano surpassed Housley's mark in some 200 fewer games. The Stars went on to defeat the San Jose Sharks 3-1 last night (mostly because of Stars goaltender Marty Turco who made a record 326 saves last night.... just kidding, he only made 38.... nice MT, nice).
Congratulations Mike!
