Sakic passes Espo

Playoff Beard.com - Joe Sakic"While in time I believe the San Jose Sharks will be most triumphant, ... they will never be a super team until they get Eddie Van Halen on the blue line."
-Bill S. Preston esq.

If the Sharks do want to march to the promised land, playing as they did last night will most assuredly keep them from said destination.

The Colorado Avalanche dropped the hammer on the Sharks last night, opening up a two goal lead in the first, and then burying San Jose with four more scores in the third. for the 6-2 win. Sharks forward Ryane Clowe made it interesting in the second by scoring the lone goal in the second period, and capping the scoring late in the third.

The show stopper once again was Avs forward Paul Stastny. The sophomore had his first career 5 point night (1 goal, 4 assists) just two game removed from his opening season hat trick. The Avalanche have themselves another star in the making.

Speaking of stars. Joe Sakic. The man continues to rise like Google's stock. Joe Sakic opened the scoring on a power play for the Avalanche, and set up Milan Hejduk for their second power play opportunity minutes later. The two points moved him into a tie, then surpassed NHL great Phil Esposito for 8th all time on the NHL Career points list. Congrats Joe!

Your friend on ice,
Captain Bosh

I caught the highlights of that game (props to NHL.com for having quality highlights available) and from what I could tell the Avalanche had absolutely no difficulty entering the Sharks' zone. I in no certain circumstances long for the clutch and grab trap days of the late 90s, but aren't you at least supposed to make an effort to keep the opposing team from breezing into your zone??? The Sharks looked so slow and I can't remember one goal that I would've blamed on Nabokov. The Sharks need to regroup a bit. They kind of remind me of the Senators last year - slow start, but you have to count on them getting their crap together sooner or later. Too much talent there.

On the other hand, the Avs are for real. Credit them for rebounding from their own poor play against the Predators. Could Stastny be this year's Crosby???
