Game of the Night
The 2007-2008 NHL regular season begins (in North America) this evening with 4 pretty decent matchups.
Anaheim at Detroit 7:00 PM
This is myGame of the Night. A rematch of last season's Western Conference Finals between the Detroit Red Wings and the Anaheim Ducks. I'm sure there will still be some bad blood on both sides, and much animosity towards everyone's beloved defenceman Chris Pronger (for his first elbow to the head in the playoffs to Detroit's Tomas Holstrom), as well as the lingering bad taste in the Wings mouths after being dumped by the Ducks in 6 games.... en route to their Stanley Cup Championship.
Montreal at Carolina 7:00 PM
Will the Habs showcase their young superstar goaltender Carey Price tonight? Will the Carolina Hurricanes rebound from a dreadful post Stanley Cup season that they endured last year?
Ottawa at Toronto 7:30 PM
Good old fashion Canadian throwdown. If there was an octagon, the Leafs and Sens would be in it. The Toronto Maple Leafs will most likely go with their new goaltender Vesa Toskala (although Paul Maurice has been coy regarding who would be his starting netminder thus far) in net this evening, while the Senators will lean on Martin Gerber who lost the starting role to the now injured Ray Emery. All eyes will be on the Senators to see if they will have a hangover from losing in the Stanley Cup Finals last year.
Dallas at Colorado 9:30 PM
Kind of curious to see how the addition of Ryan Smyth will affect the Colorado Avalanche's lineup, and also very curious to see where Dallas will get their goal scoring from..... good thing the Stars have Turco in net.
Quick Shave:
Could this be the last season in Ottawa for Senators forward Dany Heatley? The Sens were trying to work out a last minute deal prior to the start of the season tonight, but talks broke down again last night. The Senators appear to be resigned to the fact that they will have to wait till after the playoffs next year to attempt re-signing their star forward. If Heatley has another season like his last two he will command some serious dollars on the open market.... some speculate he could recieve offers in excess of $10 million per season if he becomes a UFA.
Your friend on ice,
Captain Bosh

HAHAHAHAH
I'm laughing cuz you said Dallas would score 3 goals.

If by "make out" you mean "engage in titanic battle that will be talked with hushed voices behind closed doors until the years are as grains of sand on a beach"...then yeah, I agree with Stache.
Well, it's on. I wore my wings jersey all around today. Time for Detroit take back what is ours.

The title of biggest yearly playoff dissappointment?
I kid I kid!

Well, when every year you don't win the Cup is a disappointment...yeah, you could say that.
I was actually going for the Norris Trophy...I mean, really: who else could win it? Pronger over Listrom? Bitch, please.
Anyways, that particular title will always belong to Montreal.
Well, as the Wings/Ducks game goes to shootout...
1. Wow, did Sammeulson improve. He might not have scored tonight, but he got some DAMN fine chances. Maybe it was because he was always relegated to the second/third lines before, but he's got some clear talent.
2. Datsyuk and Zetterburg are still amazing, which is good to see. This bodes well for the wings offensive output this year.
3. I want to have Nick Lidstrom's babies.
4. They said the shots on goal this game were 42-15 in favor of Detroit. This pleases me greatly. Granted, Anaheim isn't a hugely offense powerhouse, but anytime you get 42 shots on a team with Chris Pronger on it, you're doing something right.
5. On that note, Bryzgalof has been amazing all game. I mean STUNNING.
6. Hasek wins the "Goofiest-looking shit that somehow stops pucks" award.

Hasek's final save on the shootout was in slow motion.... but I think that's because Getzlaf only has the one shootout move. Hasek just layed down and waited for it.
