Step in the right direction
First off, I have to acknowledge Rick DiPietro (Playoff Beard of the Month Winner for the Month of December), and tip my beard to the man. Last night's performance has got to be one of the finest I have ever witnessed by a goaltender, and it is a crime that your team couldn't provide you some more support on both the offensive and defensive side of the puck. DiPietro, made a record (Islanders) 56 saves last night. I know it seems ridiculous, but if you watched the game on In the Tent with Clement, you'd know it's true. Unfortunately for DiPietro, and the Islanders they lost. Finally.
The New York Rangers took their first win of the season against the Islanders in a game they needed to have. It took just over 40 minutes for them to solve Rick DiPietro as Petr Prucha buried a juicy rebound off of a Jed Ortmeyer shot early in the third period. The Rangers then assaulted the Islanders' goaltender to try for the win, but could not get another shot past him. The match went to OT, and the eventual shootout where Rangers forward Matt Cullen's lone goal proved to be the game winner. The Rangers won 2-1, and grabbed the second point.
The Rangers victory gives them 71 points which has them tied with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 10th place. They are 1 point behind Montreal in 9th, and now just 2 points out of the final playoff spot held by the Carolina Hurricanes with 73 points. The Boston Bruins are just 4 points out in 12th, and the Florida Panthers actually have a chance to make it in as they sit in 13th with 67 points. Things are going to be very interesting over the next few weeks.
Game of the Night:
Nashville at Detroit 7:30 PM
Tampa Bay at Vancouver 10:00 PM
Stache was raving about the top line of Tampa Bay last week, so I thought it might be fun to watch them tonight. There are is also a battle for the top spot in the West as Nashville and Detroit collide.....you may be interested in that, as well as a variety of playoff hopefuls battling for position as well. Enjoy the games!
Your friend on ice,
Captain Bosh

the kaberle hit was more of an akward hit then a head shot.
Detroit is going to have a tough time tonight against the Preds. No Homer, no Z, no Hasek, it will be tough.

At least the preds don't have Forsberg.
Not that they're a bad team without him...

Paul, you and Jeff need to hug one another. The Red Wings are going to be fine. Playoffs don't begin till April 8th (well thats the last day of regular season) more than a month of time to get healthy and prepare for not shaving. Detroits good. Real Good.

I'm with Cap. The Wings are fine and it's in their benefit to not be first overall this year. Let Nashville deal with that pressure. They'd have to take a major tumble to not ice the 4th seed and the home advantage that comes with it, though I wonder if it would be beneficial for them to start the playoffs on the road and not have to worry about dropping that first one at the Joe. Either way, they're a good team and they'll be healthy in April which means the rest of the league should be worried.
And I'm sure you totally just cursed the top line of the 'Ning tonight, Bosh. Luongo's going to eat them for dinner now that you've shone the spotlight their direction.
