Captain Joe
1, 534 points and counting.
Last night, Colorado Avalanche forward and captain had three assists in a winning effort over the Nashville Predators. The three points pushed Sakic to 27 assists, and a team leading 44 points. Sakic's three helpers also added to his career total moving him past Paul Coffey into 10th place on the NHL's points list.
Sakic was more concerned about breaking the Avalanche out of their three game lead, which they managed to do by defeating the Nashville Predators 5-3. Peter Budaj made 26 saves on the evening and appears to have replaced Jose Theodore as the number one goaltender.
Alexander Radulov of the Nashville Predators scored again last night, and if you are looking for an available RW in your fantasy league who will contribute to your goal totals, he is worth picking up. In 26 games this season, Radulov has 18 points (11 goals, 7 assists) and is a +11.
Quick Shave:
Philadelphia Flyers forward Petr Nedved who has spent more time on the waiver wire this season than actually playing this season is about to be claimed by the Ottawa Senators on re-entry waivers. The Senators are apparently seeking a short term replacement for injured forward Jason Spezza, and Nedved may be able to find his game centering Heatley and Alfredsson......I could find my game playing between those two. Regardless, if he is placed between those guys, he might be an intriguing fantasy pickup. The Ottawa Senators were also burned in overtime last night by the Atlanta Thrashers and their former teammate Marian Hossa who assisted on all of the Thrasher's goals to win the game 3-2. The Toronto Maple Leafs thundered past the Boston Bruins last night 5-1. The victory put them into a 7th place tie with the New York Rangers with 42 points. The Buffalo Sabres proved to be too much for the New York Islanders yesterday. Ted Nolan returned to Buffalo for the first time since being fired almost 10 years ago. The Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller made 29 saves to help his club to a 3-1 win. The Phoenix Coyotes continue to rack up wins. Last night they took their third straight by knocking off the Washington Capitals 3-2. Owen Nolan had 2 points on the evening. Washington Capitals enforcer Donald Brashear was handed a one game suspension for his sucker punch on Aaron Ward of the New York Rangers Saturday Night, his second suspension of the season. Colton Orr was suspended for 5 games for his cross check on Caps star forward Alexander Ovechkin.
Game of the Night:
Anaheim at Detroit 7:30 PM
Vancouver at Calgary 9:00 PM
Even though Anaheim is being struck down by injuries, most recently losing Pronger, the match up with Detroit should still be a fantastic one. Both teams are two of the best in the West. Vancouver took the home and home series last week from Calgary and now go back to visit the Flames for a third helping. The Northwest Division is still the tightest in the league, and Calgary currently has a one point edge on Vancouver. Enjoy the games my friends!
Your friend on ice,
Captain Bosh

Speaking of Detroit, I have a fantasy dilemma. I've got Hasek and Bryzgalov on my squad and according to the boys at hockeyinformer.com Osgood is the probable starter tonight while Bryzgalov could be a game time decision for Anaheim. He's taken the pre-game skate in the last two, but that Wall kid ended up getting the start.
My question is: do I even want to play Bryzgalov against a Detroit team anxious to make Stevie Y and all of hockeytown proud on a special night? I'm having nightmare visions of Detroit putting on a show and pumping in like 9 goals. Of course, coach Randy would pull Bryzgalov after two of those because he's a bastard, but he could also put Bryzgalov back in for about four more goals, also because he's a bastard.
Or is this the best possible opportunity for Bryzgalov to come out and really prove himself?
I could really use the numbers...
Anyway, very happy for Joe Sakic. In fact, I just voted him in to the All-Star game. Now that the Avs powerhouse has been disassembled it doesn't seem like people talk about them (on the East coast at least) as much and yet Sakic proves again and again that he's still an extremely talented player. Good for him.

I think the game will be closer then you think stache. These are two very good teams and both have very good d corps. With that Bryzgalov could get the start but i think Caron or Wall will start the game tonight versus detroit.

I've opted not to start any of my Ducks keepers tonight. Here's my thoughts....
Detroit is a formidable opponent, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them explode on the Ducks. Also, with Pronger out, and Beauchemin (forgive my spelling), the Ducks keepers aren't as well protected as they once were. I also still have Bryzgalov on IR, and I'm not gonna remove him, till he gets a few games under his belt. Remember, Carlyle has showed little confidence in Ilya, and if he falters even slightly, I could see him yanked early in favor of Wall, which would completely destroy your stats.
Those are my two cents.

Oh, and congratulations Stevie Y! Thanks for the reminder on the retirement ceremony Paul!

Thanks for the two cents. I think Paul's got the inside scoop because I just read that Caron now is the probable starter. I liked Caron okay when he was in Pittsburgh. He was inconsistent, but then he had little to no help in front of him and he was certainly capable of making amazing saves every now and then (like the one he made against Philly last year - google video it).
Also just read that the Oilers snuck past Ottawa and snagged Peter Nedved from the re-entry waivers. Weird huh? Nobody wanted this guy for months and now two teams are fighting over him. Crazy. Why not just sign Jason Allison already...
