Ricky does Dallas!
Trust in Bosh...Bosh is good, Bosh is wise. I told you the Islanders could take the Stars yesterday (which is detailed in yesterday's Game of the Night)....and take them they did. Those boys from the Island have the 'Luck of the Iroc'......
Obviously looking to start this road trip off on better note than the last one (The Isles opened the season out West, and lost their first three (could have been four) by a large margin), the Islanders turned in a huge effort against the Western juggernaut Dallas Stars. The Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro stopped all 35 shots he faced, and helped his team to the 3-0 shutout win over the Stars. Mike York, Jason Blake and Trent Hunter recorded the tallies for the Isles.
Quick Shave:
The Pittsburgh Penguins can all relax. Evgeni Malkin is here to stay after a U.S. District court judge told Malkin's former team to eat it. Mettalurg had requested an injunction to prevent Malkin from playing in the NHL this season, and that request has been denied. Whether they will continue to pursue further action remains up in the air. Does it matter if they do? Really? Give it up, the kid is here. It's over Johnny. Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Smyth returned to practice today putting to rest the worries that he may have been more seriously injured the other night against Colorado. The Nashville Predators defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 last night ruining the debut of their new head coach Gary Agnew. Agnew shouldn't worry too much as his stay behind the bench may be a short one as the Blue Jackets are rumored to be agressively interviewing replacements for recently fired Gerard Gallant whom he replaced. Rod Brind'Amour scored the game winner for the Caronlina Hurricanes to lift them to a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers. Brind'Amour is riding a six game point scoring streak and is having a very nice season with 25 points (7 goals, 18 assists). The Ottawa Senators got a big win tonight as Ray Emery returned for them between the pipes. The win is actually a huge one if you consider that the Sens downed the unstoppable Buffalo Sabres 4-2. Emery made 27 saves in the win. Speaking of surprising wins, the Philadelphia Flyers stunned the league leading Anaheim Ducks 7-4 last night. Let me say that again. The Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Anaheim Ducks 7-4. Hey Coach Carlyle, I guess karma bit you hard tonight huh? J. S. Giguere surrenders 5 goals on 11 shots before you yank him? Nice work guy. Truly nice work.
Game of the Night:
Minnesota at Nashville 8:00 PM
How about a little Midwest action tonight? Both teams practically mirror one another and are separated by one point thus far in the season. Brian Rolston of the Minnesota Wild is having a career season this year, and this matchup should be a good one. Darcy Tucker will get his first ever career hat trick tomorrow night against the Boston Bruins and officially join the NHL HTC. Enjoy the games my bearded friends!
Your friend on ice,
Captain Bosh

You know Bryzgalov didn't fait much better 2 goals on 5 shots over 2 periods. Philadelphia managed to muster an incredible 16 shots. That's right 7 goals on 16 shots.
Ottawa played probably their best game of the year and that could be a good sign to those that follow the sens.

Yeah, I think a good showing by Ray Emery can go a long way for the Senators. If they can solidify him as their number one goalie (which they probably should've done in the off-season anyway; he was pretty damn good last year) then they can be a much better team. I don't think Gerber's horrible or anything, but I think he might be a better back up at this stage of the game than a starter.
And speaking of Anaheim's goalies, Bosh did you see that Slue Foot had BOTH of them going last night in our fantasy league??? Yikes. He's still kicking my ass in our match up, but not in those two categories (though Turco didn't help me a damn bit last night; thanks Marty. Thanks a lot...) Hats off to the Isles though. Nice win for them and Dallas seems to be struggling offensively in the past couple of games. Got to take advantage of that and they did.
Darcy Tucker hat trick? Say it ain't so!! I'll go to the game of the night and take Sullivan. Do it Sully! Don't let me down!

Slue Foot is a good buddy of mine, and called me during the draft for advice on goaltending.....who do you think told him to grab Bryzgalov, to compliment his acquisition of Giguere? If you look at his roster, its' pretty much all Anaheim , and as long as they don't play like they did last night against Philly...he's in good shape...thus the first place dominance.
I actually just swung a trade for Giguere in another league. I traded Nabokov and Malkin to land him. I've got Bryzgalov already, Ward and Huet. I thought it was a pretty decent move. Report Card?

Wow, what a night of upsets.
Ottawa
Boston
Philly
NY Islanders
Ananheims goal tending was completely awefully. I agree with Bosh regarding the move by Randy, you do not pull a goaltender halfway through a game unless he is playing completely aweful. Ananheim paid the price for that last night. Further, I think that they are taking some major chances trading away depth this early in the season. The injury bug can hit at anytime. Did anyone see George Parros? This guy has a stache and flow straight out of the 70's.

You're kidding?! George Parros just became my favorite player...
Malkin AND Nabokov for Jiggy??? Hmm. I'd probably give that an F+. And when you already had three decent goalies?? Dang dude. If Therrien decides that winning is a priority over teaching and Malkin stays on Crozzy Crosbourne's line for more than a few shifts in the third then you could regret that one big time, my friend. Big time.
Or not. Never can tell. I traded Demitra and some other fools for Hasek and some other fools. I don't think the Dominator's lost since and he's had two shut outs. I miss Demitra's assists, but you can't replace a guy like Hasek. Only his groin.

My concern was that aside from Ward, Huet, Nabokov and Bryzgalov were all part of a tandem system. Nabokov was doing ok, but Ward was really my only producer. I think taking my own advice to Slue, and adding Giguere to the Bryzgalov tandem was worth the points I'll being giving up with Malkin. Nabokov to me, was just a place holder in the trade. Offensively, I have Nylander and Jagr who are both lighting up the score sheet for me right now.
What's up with Armstrong? Is he not riding shotgun with Crosby any longer?

Who the crap knows? Sometimes he is, sometimes he isn't. Lately, Colby's been on the third line I believe, but the coach changes things so often it's impossible to keep up. I'm pretty sure the players only know which line they were on when they get the score sheet after the game.
Regardless, he's been a disappointment this year offensively. He's yet to find the back of the net and that hit on Letowski seems to have put him in a bit of a shellshock. Hope he can turn it around before he ends up coming the next Ryan Malone whipping boy.
