Playoff Beard of the Month: October
The power of the beard is with you young Thornton.....but you are not in the playoffs yet.
Joe Thornton, while assisting on just about every goal the San Jose Sharks have scored this season, had yet to drop one in the net himself. That is until last night. Joey T. apparently looking to end his goaless drought, began cultivating a playoff beard late last week, and the results of his facial mullet have already payed off. Joe Thornton scored his first goal on the power play last night against the Tampa Bay Lightning and helped the Sharks to victory 4-2. May the beard be with you Joe....always. The Phoenix Coyotes have finally agreed to a one year deal with unrestricted free agent center Yanic Perreault worth $700,000. Hopefully his addition will spark some life into the Coyotes who are rapidly collapsing.
Quick Shave:
Coming off the bench seems to have done Jose Theodore some good. The Colorado Avalanche goaltender showed signs of his former self making 20 saves and helping his team defeat the recently unstoppable Minnesota Wild. Milan Hejduk has been on fire lately, scored 2 of the goals for the Avs, and forward Ian Laperriere recorded his 100th career goal late in the third to round out the scoring.
Game of the Night:
Washington at Calgary 9:00 PM
Calder Trophy Winner Alexander Ovechkin goes up against Calder Trophy Runner-Up Dion Phaneuf as the Capitals continue their tour of Canada. Olaf Kolzig has been playing some great hockey lately, and has managed to give his team a chance in most of their games this season. It will be interesting to see if the Flames can muster any offense against him. Enjoy the games!
Your friend on ice,
Captain Bosh

Seems like a pretty good site Lot's of info, great for begginners, as all germans would be.
One can only hope this leads to the proliferation of Eishockey in Deutschland, ja?

Oh ja. Ich bin eishockeylander...
Anway, congrats Joey T!!! First goal AND beard of the month!!! Talk about a good night! I'm pretty sure I know which one of these achievements means more to him, and let's just say it has less to do with pucks and more to do with Face & Shoulders Shampoo/Conditioner. I know what you're thinking though, "But Joey T doesn't have beard dandruff?!?".
Exactamundo.
Seriously though, I saw Thornton in street clothes on HDNet last week and he looked more like a college History professor than a hockey player. And I loved it. Keep it up Big Joe!
Tonight may be Ovechkin vs. Phaneuf, but my money's on Alexander Semin. Not only does he have one of the best last names in hockey, but he's already netted like 8 goals. He's a secret weapon who, like his namesake, can stain the hell out of a blue dress. (Too dated?)
Pens are supposed to say today if Jordan Staal's staying with the big boys or headed back to juniors. Rumor is that it's already a done deal he's staying. Another rumor is that the Flyers suck.

In what way is that a "rumor" Stache?
I thought rumors were things that *might* not be true, not things that you're damn sure are true.

I hope Staal stays in the Pens lineup, the kid has definitely earned it.
As far as the Flyers....I still can't get over Hatcher's stats. You have to look at what the Flyers blue liners have done so far, and then you will understand why they are so bad:
Gauthier 1 assist, -4 rating
Hatcher -11 rating
Rathje -4 rating
Pitkanen 7 assists, -7 rating
....everyone of them is a minus rating....even the guys I didn't list...
Oh and the common demoninator here is that all of their defensemen are over 6 feet tall, and all but 2 are well over the 200 pound mark.

Well, the odds were against him going on, but Staal's officially staying. Let the comparisons to Eric begin! Oh wait...

Can't JUST blame the D for Philly's miseries though. Did you see Forsberg collide with Gagne on the power play against the Pens? Forsby had the puck, ran into Gagne at the offensive blue line, both fell down, Max Talbot grabbed the puck and basically had a penalty shot on Nittymaki, whom he pretty much just embarrassed.
Sad, sad, sad.

I can see where some people may be torn with Staal. He's still a kid and really never dominated much in the OHL. Plus, you wonder if this whole outburst at the beginning of the season can hold up throughout the rest of the season.
In the end, it was a good move on part of the Pens for the here and the now.

He's earned his spot Scotty! You have to love work ethic, and if he keeps it up then more power to him!
