Malkin to attend Penguins Training Camp

Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Evgeni Malkin intends to sign a contract following Labor Day Weekend and attend rookie camp on September 7th. According to TSN.ca Malkin's dream of playing in the NHL is becoming closer to a reality. While Malkin's former Russian team Metallurg Magnitogorsk (did that team buy a vowel of what?) may not be finished pursuing the matter legally, they appear to have less leverage every day. Several meetings have been scheduled and cancelled between the NHL, and Russian Federation head Vladislav Tretiak over the matter, so it remains to be seen what will come of this.

The only thing that really matters to me, and I'm sure most everyone....is that Malkin is playing hockey for the Penguins in the NHL. After that....everything else is just a Lady Byng Trophy.

Your friend on ice,
Captain Bosh

Man almighty I hope this is true. If he signs on the 5th, that gives him a solid two days before rookie camp. That's pushing it, but since he's been practicing from the time he landed in the U.S. and A. I expect he'll be in decent shape, and if not, he'll get there by the time the preseason games pick up. Of course, that's assuming he GETS to play which I'm just not going to believe until I see it at this point. Too much time for some hardcore KGB cold war espionage action to take place between now and September 5th.
