Rangers and Islanders to face off outdoors?

It's looking that way! According to reports from New York Newsday, the Rangers and Islanders would play a regular season game outdoors at Yankee Stadium on New Years Day. This would be the second NHL outdoor game in 3 years, following the successful matchup between the Oilers and Canadiens in Edmonton November 2003.

This would be outstanding! The Heritage Classic, which was an old timers game between the Oilers greats and the Canadiens greats preceded the NHL game, and it was a lot of fun. It also gave me an excuse to start pounding Labatt Blue in the early afternoon. A game between these two New York teams would be a great step towards bringing the NHL some more attention! Make it happen Gary!

Your friend on ice,
Captain Bosh

I'm with you - this is a great idea. I think New York sports fans would go crazy over this and if nothing else, it would at least give people a reason to talk about the Islanders...

Speaking of crazy things, did you read this article about Roenick? It's pretty entertaining. Here's a snippet:

"I've been in the gym at 6 every morning, and I do double sessions three to four days a week," said Roenick. "I've been going at it for over a month here in L.A. I'm on a diet and just really committed to get in the best shape I can. I owe it to myself.

"No hanging out at clubs anymore, I drink only one day a week and when I say drink, I have one or two glasses of wine with dinner. So I haven't been boozing."

Riiiiiiight. Know what he fails to mention? His wine glasses are the size of a zamboni.

Nah, I wish the guy luck. He's always been fun to watch, but lately the fun came off the ice instead of on it. I also wish the Canadian team who actually signs him luck. He's J.R., after all.

I don't think it'll go down. Not only because of the crazy weather that could happen at that time, but in order to get pipes and a surface onto a crazily designed field, I think it's a fairly big longshot.

Now, if they wanted to do it at Giants Stadium, then I think it would work. Then they could have a "Three-Way Dance" with the Devils and the winner gets to face the Flyers in the a steel cage match.
