Devils name Claude Julien head coach
At a press conference earlier today, the New Jersey Devils presented their new head coach Claude Julien. Julien was the Montreal Canadiens last season before he was fired in January, and replaced by Bob Gainey.
Interesting pick up. Surprising though. There were rumors that Johnny MacLean would be the new head coach after assisting Lou Lamoriello. Personally I think he would have been a better choice. Granted he doesn't have the head coaching experience of Julien, but I think Mac would have brought a little more energy to the bench.

Is this the first time Brodeur's had a French Canadian coach in Jersey?? (Julien is F.C., right?)
Also, Selanne's apparently re-signed with the Ducks. No surprise there, really.
Lastly, I see the Wings are letting Legace hit the free agent market. Wonder where he'll end up. Or if I'll care...

I don't think this is a bad thing for the Devils. As much as MacLean is a great guy, he's only three years into the assistant job. I'm sure the Bryan Trottier experiment is looked at and maybe a little more development for MacLean isn't a bad thing. He's a younger guy, he'll have his time.
The thing I'm surprised about is how they pulled Julien out of the shadows when no one really has given him much though for other jobs. Sweet Lou doing it again.

Jacques Lemaire? Isn't he French Canadian? No wait, he's from Brooklyn.
Were there any other coaches out there worth taking a run at?

Andy Murray is still out there, Brad Shaw did as well as he could on Long Island, and I'm sure there's plenty of other guys who would want to have that job.
