Gretzky gets 5-year extension
Head Coach Wayne Gretzky will be back behind the bench for the Phoenix Coyotes till 2011. The Coyotes will have a press conference today to announce the new deal.
The Coyotes finished 1 game under .500, but had a decent season that may have been slightly derailed by the distractions that surfaced mid-season. Cujo had a terrific season for the Coyotes and he will be back in net for them in 2007. Gretzky had a decent year as a first time coach. Not great, but no where near as bad as everyone predicted. The soft spoken player, looked like a real hard ass at times, yelling at refs, sometimes benching players
and in Nedved and Lundmark's case, shipping them out of town! I think he will be a great coach in time, and now with his new contract has the opportunity to show that.

The most memorable thing I noticed about Gretzky's first season as a coach was his reaction to that crazy goal Ovechkin scored against his Ki-yotes. Here's hoping he has a better run next year. I'm not saying the season was a wash or anything or even that Phoenix is a bad team. But I think they've been mediocre for far too long. Only place to go is up. Go get 'em Gretz.
(Think his wife would bet with me on whether or not the Coyotes will make the playoffs next year?)

Moustache comes out swinging! I refrained from the jokes, because the media gave Wayne way too much crap, and of course when he was found not to be involved, they did little to promote that.
I think Phoenix needs just a little more firepower up front and I think they will reach the post season. Be great to see them land an Elias in the off season.
